We have made a commitment to our Labs. The research in our bloodlines and pedigrees is done to improve our lines. Health and genetics are evaluated. We provide the vaccines and had them vet checked. A twenty six month guarantee is honoured with all puppies. They are well socialized within our family and other pets. Everyone of them is served up with the best choice in puppy food. For fun we make sure they love water for those field trial owners. We also need to be sure to find them loving homes! This is why you pay the price you do for a Mt. St. Louis Labrador Retriever. A lot of time, dedication and money goes into the best possible dog for you and your family. Any resposible breeder will tell you, there is not much money to be made as we re-invest into the breed lines and we do it for the love!
You have a commitment too. After all a dog is for life! Puppies are sweet but after all they do grow up and become dogs. Is there someone at home during the day? If you do work, are you prepared to come home from work and head out for a walk? Are you prepared should you have vet bills? Do you have the proper housing suitable for a large dog? Can you dedicate to the training? This dog will become your best friend but you have to be sure you can be his/hers too.
We will provide you with the food we have been using to make a gradual conversion to your own food. A sudden change of diet could result in loose stool.
We do recommend crate training. This just makes your life easier when it comes time to go out for dinner or maybe just simply to go grocery shopping. When you return, your slippers will be right were you left them. One of the best reasons we recommend crate training, a trip to the vet can be very traumatic should the need arise!
When your new family member arrives home, let your pup out every hour or so to help him get the idea of where to do his business. If an accident does occur in the house be sure to use an antiseptic on the soiled area to remove any scent for the pup to trace.
Dogs and children go hand in hand but NEVER leave your toddler unattended with any puppy. Toddlers like to tease and pull tails, in this case we highly recommend crate training for all the right reasons. The good news is that dogs are most likely to be trained before your toddler is. Love, guidance and attention will provide a loving relationship with you, your Labrador and children for years to come.
For those of you that have just brought home your newborn, please consider a puppy for a later date. You have enough on your plate right now with many sleepless nights to come without taking on additional responsabilites of a new puppy.
Learning the basic commands such as sit, come, stay, down and leash training, will be much easier to teach at an early age.
PRAISE! PRAISE! PRAISE, when your puppy is doing a terrific job, there nothing like a little TLC or maybe a treat. After all he is a member of the family.
Congratulations to all of our new puppy owners!
